I certainly can't disagree with you about the federal government. My experience showed me that fat is everywhere, initiative is stifled if not punished, talent is almost encouraged to learn what it can and leave.....and yet we expect government to function like business without the same incentives business creates for efficiency and reward.

I read with interest your earlier comments about Corzine and the instruction to the department directors in NJ to bring back alternative budget reductions of 5%, 10% etc. Has anyone worked in a business where that exercise was not carried out at some time? Does government follow such an exercise? I don't think they do at the Federal level....but I could be wrong.

Spending discipline is crucial to the faith in government being restored. It is one reason (but not the only one) that has really soured me on what I felt could be a dramatic change in America...and that was when the Republicans had the Senate, the House and the White House. Silly me, I thought that core conservative principles would surface and spending discipline (on even non- military items) would be restored. No such luck.
