In my daily routine, I pass by an intersection where a relatively young man standing with a card board asking for help. His right arm is missing. I thought that he may just returned from Iraq and lost his arm, and that the VA has not given him much help. Afterall, I keep reading that the administration keeps cutting Veteran's benefit.

Feeling sorry for him, I usually gave him a dollar or two when I had to wait for the left arrow light turns green. One day I was the first in that left turn lane, so I had the opportunity to ask him how he lost his limb.

He answers: "About a year ago I was fooling around with this nice young woman from Texas when unexpectedly her husband came home early. He was so furious that he fried his shotgun at me. Good thing I was fast on my feet, so that only my right arm was shattered."

I asked him: "Are you left handed?"

"I am now".

I never gave him anymore money.
