Sun and AMD to share common socket: uk.theinquirer.net

This sparks two questions:

1. If so could this mean a change in SUN's business model?
- So far they're largely designing their own mobo's, while sharing the socket might turn out to mean that every mobo maker can design a board for AMD / SUN processors
- I presume this means SUN will use a version of HTT instead of their own design

2. Will the chip that is put in this new socket include SUN's patented wireless proximity connection technology?
- Remember that AMD took over a bunch of SUN engineers that I think worked on this technology because of their API background (this group from SUN is in addition to the group they hired much earlier from API directly). This technology would be a perfect fit for AMD's xbar design. Come to think of it Rock might well benefit from AMD's xbar design too. Probably just some outrageously wild thoughts. But hey who knows?! Guess what, here's an even wilder afterthought: If Rock will use AMD's xbar this could even mean that AMD will fab it for SUN.

Regards,

Rink
