You may think the rhetoric turns as many people off, but given the way Americans responded to the evangelical rhetoric by Bush, on terror, I think you could be quite wrong. My problem with folks saying that Gore is not effective is that there is no evidence that he is not. All the evidence, in fact, suggests the opposite at the moment. I'm willing to contemplate that he might be turning more people off, but unless provided with some proof (more than anecdotal examples from people who aren't typical anyway) I can't give the POV much credence- and it keeps being stated as if it were a fact, which seems odd to me.
