If you doubt me, then read the history of the Ardennes offensive (battle of the bulge) where many German tanks simply ran out of fuel and had to be abandoned. Read about how the Luftwaffe couldn't fly all of the planes they produced in 1945 because they lacked fuel (as well as trained pilots).
