It's a tired, familiar old argument, "If only (fill in blank A) had been tough enough, then (fill in blank B) would no longer be a problem. B is still a problem because A didn't care, didn't have enough backbone, loves the baddies in B, etc."

The world is much more complex than that. The lesson I draw from all of this is that neither Clinton nor Bush could find a formula to stop the nuts in North Korea from doing what they do.

I posted my piece in response to Drum's nonsensical characterization that there is "no plan". Clinton and Bush both had plenty of plans. But short of starting a full-blown war with NK (a country whose army could flood much of South Korea in hours), there is no good solution.

Everything else is just empty breast-beating from sideline QBs on the left and the right.
