No argument from me there, Dale! Nor could any president since Truman. The lynchpins to the whole N Korea issue seem to be China and Russia, and neither of them are trying to help the situation. To the contrary, they seem to persist in keeping the NKs barely stable, just enough to keep the US twisting in the wind.

While I'm sure the US could take a hard line (non-military) approach that would cause the failure of the regime, the result wouldlikely be a last ditch attack by the NKs on the South. OTOH, too appeasing an approach would simply result in an even stronger NK, eventually convincing them they have the ability to conquer the South. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.
