how much do MDs make? 200-300 unless a specialist like surgeon or maybe cardiologist? that's the gist i got from reading surveys of doctor salaries on the web. if an RN can made 100K from age 25 and an internist makes 250K from age 35, i think the RN could do better financially if they invest well.

otoh, i find it hard to believe doctors would be willing to go through all that schooling (and put on all that debt) if they are not receiving commensurate financial rewards in addition to status rewards.

i was talking with a CA MD (internal medicine) w/own practice recently--she made it sound like there was nothing left over after nurse and admin costs (but i assume she was subtracting her salary). i also was surprised that she borrowed money to buy a car. i guess somebody has to be a UAW!

to me, it seems one of the riskier things about medical specialization is that one must choose a line of specialization years before hitting "payday". a lot can change between now and then, and it may affect the economic value of the specialty. i have to think that US radiologists are feeling some heat from India. also, have heard that anesthesiologists are not in as high demand as formerly. all anecdotal "info" and may not be accurate...corrections welcome!
