Anesthesiologists need to charge a lot because they pay very high rates for malpractice insurance. Also, I don't understand how they did this without a local anesthetic in your eye. Surely they must have put in some drops?

When I had major surgery on one of my eyes, I was pretty rattled so they gave me a sedative. But first I had to sign a paper saying that I wouldn't make any major decisions after they gave me the shot. OK, I signed it. Then they gave me the shot. Wow! Boy did I feel high! Then they asked me which eye they were supposed to operate on. I said hey, I'm not supposed to make any major decisions! But they wouldn't proceed until I told them which eye. Felt like I was in a freakin' SNL skit.

Oh yes, I got a bill of $600 or so from the extra surgeon who "observed" the operation on a standby basis. Fortunately my insurance paid 100% of every charge related to the operation.
