At Dumont and Farady it gets at or above freezing for two or three months - the rest of the continent never gets above freezing so this BS about "what if all the ice melts" is a scare tactic for limited thinkers like Kenny. The fact is if the planet rises another 1/2 degree or even 2 it would have almost no effect on the amount of ice that melts at the south pole.

The average is -37 and the highest is barely above freezing at two locations out of five measured, the other three spots shown in the temp graph never get above zero at any time of the year.

More importantly - the planet's temp is not static over time anyway - it's been rising since the last ice age - the important part is what portion of the natural warming we are experiencing is caused by mankinds actions and what if anything can we do that would be significant enough to make a difference and what time frame.

Getting off foreign oil to be energy independant dovetails with that believers of CO2 based warming and I'm on their side when it comes to using fuels that don't add to CO2 levels, but I don't really believe that warming is caused by CO2 and if it is I believe its effect is minor compared to other factors like water vapor and the sun's activity. Fact is CO2 has a logrithmic effect on warming, not linear, so we would next 10x the levels today to see another 1/2 degree if it's the true cause - which would get the planet to historical levels of 3200 ppm - we're currently at some of the lowest CO2 levels in millions of years.

But for the pinheads like Kenny and AS, it's about GWB - so fuck'em I don't have time for their continued stupidity.
