Exploration Progresses on Cikidang Project
Atapa Minerals Limited ("Atapa") announces the results of diamond drill holes 41 through 66 in the definition drilling program at the Cikidang project. These results are a continuation of those announced on May 28 and July 7, 1997.
The Cikidang Project is an epithermal gold-silver deposit within Atapa's 101,400 hectare Cikotok Super KP property in southwest Java, Indonesia. A steep west dipping (70 to 85 degrees) structure hosts the deposit. The fault zone is identified as the Cikidang Shear Zone and has a total strike length of 1,200 metres and a total vertical extent of at least 200 metres.
The Cikidang structure was discovered by Aneka Tambang ("Antam") in 1991 and had been reported by Antam as containing a resource of approximately 473,000 tonnes with an average grade of 10 grams of gold per tonne ("g/t Au"). Atapa's drilling program commenced in April 1997 to test the down dip and along strike continuity of the vein in the Cikidang Shear Zone. To date 47 holes (CKD20 to CKD66) have been completed totaling 4,338 metres of drilling.
The Cikidang structure remains open to the north and has been partially tested at depth and to the south. A second drill has been moved onto the property to test nearby prospects and to delineate possible extensions to the north and south of the Shear Zone. Drilling has just commenced in a mineralized area on the southern end of the property, and initial results justify continued drilling on this zone. Final assay results will be announced as they become available. In addition, a geophysical survey has identified an anomaly parallel and to the south of the Cikidang structure. The survey will be followed up with prospecting and trenching by Atapa's exploration team and will assist them in defining areas for drill testing.

Other Sections
CKD50, CKD51 and CKD54 were drilled to trace the southern extension of the Cikidang Shear Zone. These holes did not intersect the shear zone. Geological and structural interpretations indicate that the Cikidang Shear Zone has been displaced by east trending faults and Atapa plans to conduct additional drilling to confirm this interpretation.
CKD52 and CKD53 were drilled on section A to test the down dip continuity of the Cikidang Shear Zone that was intersected in CKD20 (elevation 1178) as containing 10.30 metres grading 5.99 g/t Au. CKD52 (-60 degrees) intersected the shear zone from 84.60 metres (elevation 1148) to 95.20 metres down hole and returned an intersection of 1.00 metre averaging 6.16 g/t Au and 7.5 g/t Ag. CKD 53 (-70 degrees) did not intersect a major shear zone.
