Perhaps, but I think that it is folly to assume that iNTEL is sitting
on its hands not expecting AMD to try this. Also, I recall having an
almost identical reaction last year after the October 22, 1996 forum
when AMD revealed the details of the K6. The K6 looked somewhat
better on paper than it actually turned out te be relative to the
pII. iNTEL has the advantage that software developers design their
software around iNTELS chips. For example, Quake runs dramatically
better on a pII because math operations are sequenced to optimize how
a pII orders them. I would not be surprised to see some such
disadvantages undermine the performance of the K6 plus
