With its first-three-day box standing at $132 million, it’s a new record. It also beat the first-day revenue of $50 million, set by “Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.” “Chest” sailed by that figure with $55.5 million on opening day. And the next day “Chest” became the only movie ever to gross $100 million in just two days. Put another way, in only three days “Chest” is only $9.5 million shy of “Superman Returns”’s total take in two weeks. I saw Superman and thought it was outstanding. It is at one level deeply theological. I have not seen “Dead Man’s Chest” but hope to do so soon.
