Eddy, much of the world is not very supportive of U.S. policies and actions at present. If you read this board you have seen the results of many international polls that are devastatingly negative about the U.S. and its government.

Obviously these sentiments are extremely important from a global economics perspective as sentiments will eventually reflect themselves in politics and business. Few U.S. companies have an easy time overseas at present. The U.S. brand is badly tainted in the streets across most of the world today. This will have long term implications on many fronts.

More immediately, given the huge imbalances and the resulting dependency of the U.S. on outside creditors, any sane investor or organization has to worry about the prospects of the dollar in such an environment. As most of us have dollar investments, an honest accounting of the situation is a pure necessity.

Personally, I am appalled by the incompetence and arrogance of the present administration. I don't believe that what you observe here is a "Kulturkampf" though that is exactly what we need in the U.S., in my opinion. This country needs to reevaluate its objectives as acquiring and maintaining an empire is not only costly but a highly corrupting endeavour and very difficult to reconcile with noble objectives and rhetoric.
