Revlon Expects $95 Million Net Loss in 2nd Quarter, Hurt by New Vital Radiance Line

NEW YORK (AP) -- Cosmetics maker Revlon Inc. said Monday it expects a loss of $95 million loss in the second quarter, hurt in part by a $40 million shortfall related to Vital Radiance, a new makeup line aimed at women aged 50 and older.

Revlon shares fell 4 cents, or 3.1 percent, to $1.26 in early trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

The company lost $35.8 million in the second quarter last year. Sales are expected to be even with second-quarter 2005 sales of $318.3 million.

For the year, Revlon affirmed expectations of a profit in 2006, before taxes, interest and other charges, to be flat or below 2005 earnings of $167 million. Revenue is expected to be up in the mid-single-digit range from 2005 revenue of $1.33 billion.

For the long term, the company expects net sales growth in the mid-single-digit range.

The Vital Radiance launch is expected to reduce operating profit by about $60 million for the year due to weak sales.
