Former Merck Sales V.P. Joins Martek

COLUMBIA, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 23, 1997--Martek Biosciences Corporation (NASDAQ:MATK) today
announced that Jerome C. Keller, former Vice President of Sales for Merck & Company, has joined Martek as Senior
Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Mr. Keller comes to Martek after a successful career at Merck & Co. where he was
responsible for U.S. Merck sales. Some of the products introduced under Mr. Keller include Pepcid(R), Mefoxin(R),
Primaxin(R), Clinoril(R), Vasotec(R), Mevocor(R), and Zocor(R).
