Yes it is Peter. It has been said that the Columbia River is the most radioactive river in North America. I do not know if this is true or mere hyperbole, but there are serious problems. Hanford is probably the most obvious and the main source of the radioactivity.

Other sources are the runoff of the farms and forests that are sprayed by a whole list of herbicides and pesticides over many years.

How do I protect myself?

I am a vegetarian, so my exposure to the animal fat, which seems to store much of this witch's brew does not pass my lips.

Westinghouse has been working at Hanford for seems like ten years now trying to remedy some of the problems.

They are getting fat on the job.

The Corps(e) of Engineers volunteered for the job but the EPA told them to take a hike.

The Corps of Engineers' name is not as well respected as it should. There are some fine people in the organization, but they do not seem to be making the decisions.
