I don't even think you should have kids unless you have a reliable partner and support system, maturity, and have a stash of money.
Thrill-seeking mystifies me, too.
Another thing that mystifies me is that, of 32 great-grandparents, 30 came from families who were all here before the American Revolution, and the other two came here right after the Civil War (and married each other).
And not one of them appears to have stayed in the same place for more than one generation.
Seems pretty crazy to me. I just don't get it. They risked death at sea, scalping by Indians, famine, and strange diseases, and for what?
The most thrill-seeking thing I ever did in my life was risk an inordinate amount of work on a contingency fee case, but not any significant amount of money, and even that tied me into knots, although it was more of an investment than a gamble. Now the worst thing I do is speed on the Beltway, going with the flow only. And occasionally eat unwashed fruit. (Also, if you're into that sort of thing, sometimes take the name of the Lord in vain).
Mqaurice says we're all descended from an unbroken chain of people who lived long enough to reproduce. Maybe that's the explanation. It doesn't really matter how crazy you are if you live long enough to reproduce. |
