You can buy a Japanese hybrid right now and get 50 mpg - that is, if you can find one. Or you can wait 20 years and Detroit may have a similar product - that is if Detroit exists.

PS - I believe Detroit will eventually just import and rebrand Chinese made cars. Once China gets into car manufacture in a big way (and they will), you can kiss the rest of your dollars goodbye.
