Varian Semiconductor Introduces VIISta HCP(TM) Wednesday July 12, 10:00 am ET
New Single Wafer Ion Implanter Extends Leadership in High Current
GLOUCESTER, MA--(MARKET WIRE)--Jul 12, 2006 -- Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates, Inc. (NASDAQ:VSEA - News) announced today that it has introduced its newest single wafer high current (SWHC) ion implanter, VIISta HCP(TM). This is the fifth generation SWHC product that Varian Semiconductor has successfully brought to market. In addition to holding the number one position in overall implant market share, Varian Semiconductor is also the market share leader in the high current market segment with more than 240 SWHC systems shipped worldwide.
The VIISta HCP builds upon Varian Semiconductor's patented "Dual Magnet Ribbon Beam" architecture to further extend the company's performance leadership. It is designed to meet and exceed the leading-edge manufacturing requirements for 65nm technology and beyond. This new product offers the best productivity, lowest particle contamination and the best reliability in the high current segment. These attributes are expected to allow customers to achieve tremendous savings through lower manufacturing costs and increased yield.
Varian Semiconductor has shipped multiple VIISta HCP systems into 65nm production and 45nm development. The systems have been accepted into high volume manufacturing and the company has received additional follow-on orders from leading logic, memory and foundry chipmakers. The VIISta HCP is available as a new factory shipment and in keeping with the company vision of designing for extendability to reduce customer costs, it is also available as a field upgrade to the VIISta HC(TM) product.
"At Varian Semiconductor, we continue to work with our customers to drive higher yield and lower costs. We recently introduced the VIISta vMask which is designed to significantly reduce R&D costs in the fab. The VIISta HCP improves productivity at ultra-low energies and also reduces contamination levels. This will help our customers to further reduce their manufacturing costs," said Gary Dickerson, Chief Executive Officer of Varian Semiconductor. "We thank our customers for supporting our initiatives and making us number one in total implant and number one in high current. Based on the rapid adoption of the VIISta HCP, we expect to increase our market leadership with the introduction of this product."
About the VIISta HCP
The VIISta HCP delivers superior productivity on a production-proven single wafer architecture. It is the only high current system designed to ensure both high yield and high productivity using a patented dual magnet ribbon beam architecture to achieve excellent particle performance, in-situ interlocked beam steering for repeatable dopant placement, and a simple one-dimensional wafer scanning endstation for highest productivity. The VIISta HCP is a member of the VIISta suite of ion implanters -- the only production-proven single wafer platform solution for all implant segments with over 500 systems installed worldwide.
