UPDATE: Applied Materials CEO: Addressable Market To Grow (Updated with additional comments from CEO Splinter in the fifth, or last, paragraph.) By Donna Fuscaldo Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES Applied Materials Inc.'s (AMAT) addressable market is expected to grow to $37 billion, according to Chief Executive Michael Splinter. Speaking during the company's analyst meeting in San Francisco at Semicon West, the chip-equipment trade show, which was broadcast over the Internet, Splinter said Applied Material's addressable market will grow at a "very fast rate" from $17 billion in 2004. According to the executive, Applied Materials expects its core chip-equipment market to see 13% growth, while its flat-panel market is expected to grow to $2 billion in the next couple of years from a little less than $1 billion today. As for its services business, Splinter expects the company's addressable market to grow to $11 billion by 2008. He noted that Applied Materials expects "healthy" growth in wafer-equipment sales. During the analyst meeting, Splinter said the company is "pretty positive" on order and revenue rates in 2007. Splinter noted that while things right now appear to be "OK" for next year, Applied Materials will pay close attention to both internal and external indicators over the next few months to see if its positive assessment changes.
