Sure, that Israel is a democracy is a reason to support them, but you shouldn't look at that alone. That's where you and I have a fundamental difference of opinion. I believe that all striving democratic systems should be defended from external threats to their existence. And I would expect them to defend us from OUR external threats since we have a mutual self-interest in promoting democracy and freedom throughout the world. It's nothing to be ashamed of Elroy, so hold you head up high.. Because the alternative will be that you will have to keep your head low in order not to be killed by the numerous enemies of democracy. Israel is also a small ethnic state created in a multi-ethnic region where the vast majority of the surrounding population doesn't want an ethnic state. And how is that any different from any of the OTHER states in the Mid-East?? They WERE ALL CREATED BY ARBITRARY METHODS after the collapse of the Ottoman Empire when it was defeated in WWI. That's why you have Coptic Christians in Egypt being ruled by Muslim Arabs, even though the Copts have been in Egypt for FAR LONGER than the Muslim Arabs. That's why the Kurds were denied a homeland, despite being the largest single ethinicity in the region... It's why the Arabs living in the Palestine region found themselves ruled by a deposed Hashemite King chased out of Mecca and Medina. Israel is not the only "artificial" state in the region.. ALL of them are that way. This is not accurate. They don't hate the United States because we are unIslamic, But they don't hate us because we support arbitrary tribal leaders who have elevated themselves to Kings?? Come on now.. that may be what they say.. But they say it because they are, just like many people on this thread, trying to blame others for the problems they, themselves, have created. Hawk
