speaking of sharp knives....

i was compelled to hold fresh flowers under the running
water one day as i sliced neatly a cropped inch from the
bottom.....hold them in mid-air, i mean. i will never know
why, but the point...
the real point ...i sliced nearly to the BONE of my left index
finger. third joint, nice and deep. i actually did see the bone
before i felt i would pass out.

i slipped into automatic pilot as you may imagine propelled
only by my simple refusal to think of an emergency room visit.
i fashioned an elaborate wad of paper towels and bound it
so the pressure convinced me it would begin to forge an
intimate bond as i raced to one of those Rx stores you may
remember...

i bought a stock of closure strips and biocclusive bandages
and performed micro-surgery the instant i got home ...my god
it was bloody, but at least it was clean. i often think of that
incident, and the only thing i remember is the image of seeing
the bone inside my finger and leaving my body to get a better
view. i am not sure i could have consciously treated myself
unless i did exactly that.

i never thought to use crazy glue, but it wasn't a tip, and i am
sure it would have permeated my system thoroughly...

but no one touches my knives...no one, i would be livid to find
them dull.
