Abbas seems moderate:

From CBS News Feb 1, 2006:

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday asked Hamas to form the next Palestinian government, but demanded that the Islamic militants recognize existing peace deals and back his moderate policies, including negotiations with Israel, as the "sole strategic choice" of the Palestinians.

Abbas made the demands in a speech to the new Hamas-dominated parliament, after legislators were sworn in by collective oath. Hamas controls 74 of 132 seats, but Abbas retained considerable power as Palestinian Authority president, controlling foreign affairs, security and peace negotiations.

I know there are radicals on both sides who want to eliminate each other. I don't need to see it in a video. Just look what is unfolding today!

I believe that an injustice was done to the Palestinian people. Something else should have been done 50 years ago. I think a part of Germany would have made a nice homeland for the Jews. Since they persecuted the Jews they should have made a provision for a Jewish state, or Jewish lands within the state as compensation. The King of Saudi Arabia was clear about that 50 years ago.

Jews that wished to move to Palestine could have done that on their own. They should have been subject to Palestine laws and customs.

It seems to me that Arabs were forced to accept a Jewish State in the heart of their country. This has caused much agony for many people and was a bad idea from the git go, IMHO.
