Yes, I read it and thoroughly enjoyed it. When I read in a review that the Tommy Killian character in Bonfire of the Vanities was modeled after him, I ran out and bought it right away. He could have joined any white shoe law firm, but he preferred the grittier elements of the law. Calls himself a neighborhood white boy. I have since passed the book on to another neighborhood white boy. <g>

A problem similar to the naked emperor syndrome is the issue of the proper "pedigree" of the artist. I saw some pieces in a gallery done by an artist that my self-taught friend would call "knifers." They were alright, nice color composition, pleasing to look at, technically not that hard to do. Anyone with an eye for color could kick them out. Prices ranged from $2,000 to $10,000. When I suggested to the gallery owner my friend could supply him with similar if not better pieces, he scoffed and said he hadn't been to the right art schools, been shown in the right galleries, etc.

So is it about art or isn't it?
