The 10% ethanol boosts the octane, same as lead used to do, plus it burns 60% of the gas that doesn't get burned in the cylinders making emissions cleaner. Also keeps your tank, fuel lines and injectors cleaner.

As for mileage on the 10%, our electric co-op did a study with their meter readers. The 10% got around 2% better mileage than the straight gas did. This covered quite a few vehicles as the co-op has over 1 million homes in it.
