He wasn't suggesting it was the "best" building, you made that up- he was declining to say other people should be blown up instead, which is not the same thing at all. He was declining to choose who should live and who should die- in a hypothetical, and there is nothing wrong with that, since it's a silly hypothetical, and we don't get to choose these things. Perhaps we could all agree that we wish an EMPTY building had been blown up, but to wish that another building had been blown up (a building with people in it) will strike many people as disgusting.

And doesn't the NY Times have daycare on site?
