Well of course, the Europeans and Americans knew best, and couldn't leave the Arabs to themselves. Not with all that oil at stake.

Let's get some historical context here.

If not for the oil, we Westerners would have been content to let the Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds and everybody else in the area beat each other senseless for all eternity.
