Then there’s the English habit (Is this peculiar to the English?) of mangling other people’s names and sticking with it. Swedes call their country SVAR-e-ah not Swee-din. And folks in Denmark don’t pronounce it KO-pen-HAY-gen and never have. Lots of similar examples. Wonder why the NYT style book never corrects these gaffs?
