We're certainly content with the Rwandans, Sudanese and other states killing themselves off. Oh we were happy enough to see the Arabs and Persians kill each other, as long as they left us alone and kept the oil flowing. Do you know how many died in that war? It was by no means the only Arab war, either. The only reason the US stood up against Saddam taking Kuwait is that he would have taken Saudi Arabia and the Gulf too. Then 2/3 of the world's oil would have been in the hands of a nuclear armed nutcase - though the CIA didn't know at the time how close Saddam was to getting a nuke.
