You make one huge assumption -- and if your assumption is wrong then so are your conclusions: You are assuming that the key to the global economy is the American consumer. You might find that you are looking at the world through your rear view mirror. I see the torch being passed from America to Asia. You might find that impossible to imagine -- I find it increasingly obvious. The torch could get dropped. Our insane finances and our wars could screw things up -- and the world could go into a tailspin as you predict. But I also think you need to give more consideration to the unthinkable -- a world where the US becomes increasingly weak and poor while the rest of the world gathers strength and wealth.
