I've looked back at the various indices and no particular indication that the Nikkei leads other indices at these critical points. This is because this carry trade thing is so important. Will be looking Sunday night at the open across Asia. I can always do something in my Australian account as well - 80% of my money is in Australia and 20% in the US (where I live) - though the Aussie accounts are mainly geared to long term investment.

Yeah many hedge funds are by now very aware of these correlations. I don't think that is going to eliminate the effect, at least not just yet, they might actually accentuate it. The rallies and declines are multi-day events anyway still.

BTW, most hedge funds lost money in May just like most mutual funds.
