Edwin, I found only this (the HP stuff must be archived)
on Nu-kote. I'm not interested in pursuing it further, since
I'm not a lawyer.

Excerpt...

Nu-kote also said today that Judge Terry J. Hatter, Jr. of the U.S. District Court in Los Angeles invalidated a key design patent on refill cartridges for Seiko-Epson inkjet printers. In his ruling
against Seiko-Epson, the Judge found the Seiko-Epson design patent to be unenforceable. This was the fifth patent Seiko-Epson has lost this year in the patent infringement suit it brought against inkjet
cartridge competitor, Nu-kote.

What's the relevance? Nu-kote seems to think they have a right
to sell refill ink cartridges for Seiko-Epson printers. This does
not necessarily mean the situation between Iomega and Nomai is
the same. But it would give me something to worry about, if others
had not assured me this kind of thing cannot happen.
