I think any war with Iran would be a "raid" done by our Airforce plus Special Ops.

Yes, of course.

But the Iranians would surely try to damage our ships in the Gulf as a response. The Iranians would go on high alert if whatever Fifth Fleet ships we have in the Gulf skedaddle.

The simple fact of the Fleet's leaving might well take oil to $100 since there would be no guarantees for tankers and, of course, doing so might signal upcoming hostilities.
