Yes, because their economies were unsustainable. Few places are as tightly run and lunatic as North Korea and as willing to let millions starve. I feared they might end with a war in their weakness, but they didn't.

However, due to oil, the same logic does not hold true for Iran and Saudi Arabia. They can sustain a great deal of self-destructive wackiness for a long time. AND they have huge hordes of underemployed young men just waiting to be cannon fodder.
