I agree we need to find a replacement for oil, and cut back on wasteful consumption. Ethanol from sugar cane, sugar beets, and other sugar rich plants is a positive contributor to a solution. Ethanol from corn is stupid. It depletes energy stocks even faster. We have limited NG and it's an ideal fuel for home heating. Wasting our limited supply making ethanol from corn is foolish.

If we taxpayers weren't (heavily) subsidizing corn ethanol and tariffs were removed from sugar cane/beet based foreign ethanol, that would be fine, and ethanol could find a balance in the energy picture. What is going on now is a scam, we are the victims, and the Bush administration is helping the ethanol special interests pick our pockets. This is one of many reasons that people are so incredibly ticked off at the republicans and Bush.
