Better than wasting our own resources (and an incredible amount of taxpayer money) doing something that basic math clearly demonstrates can't solve the problem. If corn ethanol is implemented, we would only reduce our imports by 1-2%, so corn ethanol can't significantly reduce our dependence on foreign oil anyways!!

The best solution in the short-mid term is to stop wasting so much energy. No one is willing to even discuss that. Better to expend an enormous amount of energy to till the soil, plant corn, fertilize it, water it, harvest it, and process it, to satisfy 1-2% of our nation's needs. That's MUCH smarter than basic conservation efforts that could easily cut 5-6% off of consumption.

That's one of many aspects of the insanity of this entire mess.
