Decalogue isn't the depths of darkness- that's Apocalypse Now territory. The films are not as "pretty" as the colors trilogy, but it's an exploration of ethics, not a party. It's a little dreary, but life can be a struggle, especially in a Warsaw apartment building. I found the films, which were made for television, provocative, and well worth watching. I never thought of the Colors as a big upper either.
