I see a whole 'nuther set of problems in "sectionizing" Iraq. For example, the respective economies -- who would get the oil fields? Who'd get the ports? How about pipelines from the oil to other places?

Given the historic animosities, it seems to me that making Iraq into three separate states would be begging for continuing cross-border wars, and whoever has the best economy would soon defeat at least one of the other newly created states. Chances are, in the "mental map" I draw, the Sunis would get the oil and be supported by the Saudis. The Shiias would align with Iran. This would, IMO, create a battleground between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

I agree with you Laz, it ain't a very good idea.
