The concern was that Hezbollah was going to try to take the soldiers to Iran. I have seen some suggestion that the impetus for this started in Iran. So to try and keep the soldiers in Lebanon the Israelis crippled air transport in or out of lebanon. Logisticly a logical step. Politically maybe not so great, but as a military target it makes sense. Just like crippling movement in the country, in a military sense it makes sense, as far as the 11 oclock news maybe not so good, but North americans are really rather stupid about war. I didn't notice this kind of concern with civilians in my Second world War history...... And frankly the Russians and Iraqi's have had no such qualms.....
