If it ever happened that the people achieved freedom without a revolution, I don't recall it.

The EU was formed without a violent revolution. The Berlin Wall fell and East Germany became free without bloodshed. Russia got rid of Communism without bloodshed. Ghandhi got rid of the colonialists using peaceful means. Martin Luther King used similar methods to great effect.

Vikings from Scandinavia laid down their arms and are now peace loving people.

There is a glimmer of hope. There is a possibility. Put this in perspective. We are basically savages with a history of only several thousand years history of civilization. Cosmically speaking, that is no time at all. If you look at the trend of civility and resolving conflicts without the use of force, there is no doubt the use of force has no credibility and is on its way out.

There is no civilization on earth today that uses force to raise their children. When children misbehave, do we beat the hell out of them to straighten them out? When adults misbehave, are they not just ignorant people behaving child like?

Why do we have to persist in making these self fulfilling prophecies that conflicts can only be resolved by the use of force?
