DATA SNAP: Euro-Zone Indus Output Growth At 5-Year High

LONDON (Dow Jones)--Industrial production in the 12 countries that share the euro grew at its fastest rate in more than five years in May, fueled by strong demand for durable consumer goods.

According to data released Monday by the European Union's statistics agency Eurostat, factory output was up 1.6% from April and up 4.9% from May 2005. The annual rate is the highest since January 2001, when output was up 5.3% on the year.

The sector's performance in May comfortably beat expectations. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires last week estimated production rose 1.4% on the month and 4.3% on the year.

Fed: Industrial Production Up in June

Industrial Production Increases 0.8 Percent in June, Fed Reports

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Industrial production rose significantly in June, reflecting advances in manufacturing, mining and auto production.
The Federal Reserve reported Monday that output at the nation's factories, mines and utilities jumped by 0.8 percent last month following a gain of 0.1 percent in May. The latest increase was stronger than expected; analysts had anticipated an increase of 0.4 percent.


The rise in production also marked a 4.5 percent increase over June 2005.
