Got upgraded to the 2.16Ghz version free of charge. Posted about that, but it's not relevant right now. Anyway, the battery became a problem only this month. Strange, I know, but true...
Keep an eye on yours and buy Applecare, if you have not already -- to me, getting a loptop without it has poven to be unwise.<<

This is freaky.
I also ordered the MBP the first day, and my unit's serial number indicates it was made during the first week of production. It's been perfectly fine up until this past week, when it started doing just what you describe. If it's on battery, it will shut down without warning.
I'm working around it, since I seldom need to be unplugged anyway. Funny that our machines would have the same problem starting at the same time.
I did buy the Applecare plan, though I bought it after the fact on Ebay, for $205. Like you, I wouldn't want to have a notebook without it.
I'm coming back to the States in late August, so I'll exchange the battery then.
