SanDisk to slash NAND flash finished goods prices by up to 15% this week
Josephine Lien and Esther Lam, DigiTimes.com [Tuesday 18 July 2006]

Sources at the Taiwan distributor of SanDisk have indicated that the chipmaker has cut its NAND flash prices 10-15% this week.

SanDisk's price adjustment for its NAND-based finished goods will be applied globally, rather than just in specific regions, the sources noted. This will be the fourth price reduction SanDisk has proposed this year and each price adjustment has impacted the pricing structure of the entire industry, industry observers noted.

The upcoming price cuts are now arousing concern for another wave of fierce price competition.

Currently the NAND flash market has been stagnating, despite Samsung Electronics indicating that there is no delay on a "certain" NAND-based application (read iPod) during its recent investors conference. However, market rumors persist that the high-density iPod release will be delayed to the fourth quarter, rather than late in the third quarter.
