"Yep... not *one* veto of pork, and he saves his pen up for vetoing medical advancement.

(Pretty amazing when you stop to think about it....)"

I don't know. Pandering to the base seems the way of the world. The congress does it too, bragging about how much pork they bring home.

Well, the cost of covering interest payments on the debt has gone up as long-term rates have gone up. If we do have a recession next year (a really scary thought), the tax revenues will drop off while the costs of maintaining the federal safety net programs increase. Then we have to finance the increased debt with more expensive bonds.....and if the republican answer is more tax cuts (without corresponding spending cuts), there is nothing but trouble ahead.

Amazing that in the past five years when vetos of spending would not only have been logical in light of the tax cuts ("Hey, we cut taxes..gotta cut spending") and even applauded, we may be financing our way into a cul-de-sac.

And what do we spend our first veto on, with all this fiscal nonsense going on?.....stem cell research...something supported by up to 75% of Americans.

I don't get it.
