In reference to the earnings report I'm having trouble with this portion.....

In July, 3Com said it planned to cut 800 jobs as its absorbs its recent acquisition of modem-maker U.S. Robotics. The company planned to trim over the fiscal year 600 permanent jobs and 200 temporary jobs from its combined workforce of 13,500.

It is very important to KNOW what jobs are being cut, NOT just the number! In Silicon Valley they are fighting for employees...if not kidnapping them!

So 800 jobs being cut could be a major asset loss. And at the same time 3Com is increasing the severance costs?! Why an increase if these folks can walk next door and get a job...if they haven't already?

Don't get me wrong now, if these are redundant jobs because of overlap created by the merger I understand, however I'm stuck with no facts, so I must assume!
