That's completely irrelevant. .. or at least almost completley.

As long as we rely on fossil carbon sources, the best those things can do is slow the rate of accumulation

We could burn less fossil fuel. The point is we have to burn less hydrocarbons regardless of the source. If we burn less fossil fuel it will produce less CO2 than if we burn keep burning "carbon neutral" fuels at the same rate as today. Carbon neutral may be a useful step while shutting down the fossil fuel sources, but it doesn't really help the underlying problem if carbon is just recycled faster back into the air.
