I used to be a big booster of the three state solution, and still am to a degree. Listening to Dexter Filkins talk about it on NPR clarified some things. Of the three groups, only the Kurds are geographically separated. The Sunni and the Shia are blended in most regions. So, the three state solution would require perhaps the most massive relocation of people in history, with all the problems that would bring, and support it would need. It's not the "easy" way to peace it might seem.
