Ichy, you are dead wrong on the threat to Israel. Israel's neighbours are weak and pretty much impoverished. Israel has billions of dollars of mostly latest technology weapons bought each year, much of it provided for free by the United States. I once talked with a guy who fought for Israel in one of the wars with Egypt, can't remember if it was the 1967 one or 1973. He talked for a long time about how inferior all the Arab weapons were to theirs, even then. In fact, at one point he was in his tank firing $50,000 a pop armour piercing shells at a bunch of guys charging them on foot with pistols. Even back then, when the Arab states were far more powerful in proportion to Israel, the Arabs didn't have a chance although they hadn't realized it yet.

In modern warfare, inferior tanks and aircraft are useless, -- they get outmaneovered and destroyed one by one and in no time they are all gone. I think that all Israel's neighbours realize by now that in any war they would just get annihilated. That is why Israel gets away with buzzing the home of Syria's Assad's home with their jets or destroying Lebanon's infrastructure at will.
