All the countries and people are still there, under different forms of government. It didn't "go away", and Russia still has it's nukes..

In order for the land held by Israel to be peaceful all of the people who are there at the moment don't necessarily have to "go away". I know the fanatic clerics preach that crap, but I can imagine a proposal for a country that is open to Palestinians and Israelis as equal citizens, has a government which doesn't make laws regarding religion, and is located in the area currently called Israel and the occuppied territories. No one has to go away. It theoretically works in Lebanon with Christians and Muslims living in one country. There is no reason it couldn't work in other ME countries.

Once you remove the part about Israel being the "Jewish homeland" as opposed to the homeland for all the people that live there, a lot of the Arab fundamental basis for objection to the country goes away. But as long as Israel grants citizenship and all the rights that go along with it to Jews from Argentina, and simultaneously denies citizenship to a Muslim Palestinian refugee born and raised in the West Bank and descended from 20 generations of West Bank Muslims, the Arabs are not going to accept Israel. Would you if you were them?
